Catching up!

Happy Friday Everyone!
It has been a long time since I have posted a blog... I actually kind of forgot i even had a blog that I was writing on.
Honestly I was thinking I was really done with typing up silly little blog posts for everyone to read. Until I went back and read some of my past posts and I thought what a great way to be able to go back and read about things I have done over the year and see the times I was rejoicing and the times that I was feeling down.

Year in Review:
I can not believe it is already half way through December. This past year has been an amazing one in so many ways. I have been Blessed beyond what I deserved and I have been taught so many different life lessons all in one year.

~Lets See This time last year in 2011 I was graduating from Oklahoma Christian University with no idea of what to expect from the future. All I had to worry about was packing up the U-haul truck in time and cleaning every little thing of mine out of the school apartments.
I moved home and immediately started the daunting task of job searching. While also getting a surprise congratulation text from a guy/friend that I used to go to school with in Hutchinson. Well who would of thought that one text could start a journey of great memories. And now I get to call him my Boyfriend.
~Can you believe in less than a month we will be each others best friends and inseparable for a year. Its CRAZY

~OK so soon after beginning the Job search I got several interviews but none of them clicked until I got the opportunity to interview with the Kansas Department of Agriculture. I remember after leaving the interview I was a jumble of nerves but I also felt like I belonged in this office. And guess what I did. They told me that I wouldn't hear anything back for at least a month and surprisingly I got the call exactly  a week later and began my job 4 days later and it have been a great opportunity ever since.

~ In March I rented my first apartment and was able to move in with my little 4-legged roommate, Maizie .
Favorite Part: Decorating, Being Independent, Having a place to call mine

Least Favorite: Loud Neighbors and Smokey Neighbors.
But all in all it has been a great learning experience.
~ Buying my first Car all on my own: started looking for a nice car with better gas mileage around the time I got my job but I was going to take it slow and see what really was out there. Then I got the opportunity to test drive a 2006 Nissan Altima. It had everything I wanted and more: 4 doors, power locks and windows, Cruise control , low mileage, and a very reasonable price! I snagged it up right away and I have loved it ever since!

~ Summer:
Celebrated my 22nd birthday
Celebrated 6 months with an amazing man on July 4th.
Traveled across Kansas to go see some dear friends in Oakley.
~Fall:
Tyler was in an accident and seeing how fast he is recuperating and getting back to work has been one of the greatest blessings.
Road Trip to Oklahoma City to spend sometime with some great girls that I missed dearly
Branson family trip with the Boyfriends family: My first trip to Branson and Ryan made sure it was memorable and relaxing all at the same time.
Thanksgiving with the Sidesingers and Thanksgiving with my Family
Learning I am a great shot when it comes to shooting at pumpkins!

~Winter:
Living in the present but one the of the most memorable times right now is getting to see Topeka all lit up for Christmas time.
Also getting to shop and pick out the perfect gifts for so many loved ones this year!

I hope this helped catch everyone up and I promise I will try harder on staying up to date with my posts!
Love,
April

High Five For Friday!

1.) How can it be a bad friday when your brother is out of the hospital and making leaps and bounds in his recovery. He is doing so great and most importantly he has such a positive attitude about his recovery and all the therapy he has to go through!

2.) I got my halloween costume slightly figured out and that is a big step for me. Say hello to the defender of the poor and stealer of the rich.....ROBIN HOOD!

3.) I get to have supper with my friend Morgan this evening and shopping on saturday!

4.) I plan to do a deep clean on my closet and try and purge out the clothes I am no longer wearing.

5.) I finally found some black flats that were super cheap and great quality and will look great for work!

Happy Friday and Weekend Everyone

P.S. I know I am posting this late I forgot to post it on friday...so better late than never right?

Been away.....way to long!

So I have had a major case of writers block for like the past few months it feels like. Its not like I have nothing to share with you it was more so do they all really want to hear about it. But now I have something to really say and I hope you will all take notice.

LIFE IS SHORT and I take it for granted way to much.

Last Wednesday I got a call from my mother that no one ever wants to hear. My brother had been in a serious car accident and all she could ask of me is to Pray hard for him. And that is what I did, I was distraught and could barely form a few words together so all I asked was that he listen to my heart and hear what I cant form into words.

My sister gave me a verse that I am still clinging to and at the time it helped me put my emotions into perspective.

John 14:27
"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."

Today my brother is still in the hospital but no longer in ICU he has no brain trauma and will be able to walk again after his hip has healed. He will soon be released to a rehab center to help with therapy for his leg, hip, and foot on his right side.
We are so thankful and feel completely blessed that our prayers are being answered everyday and my brother is staying strong through it all.

I know we could not do this without the support of our family and friends and the Love of our Lord carrying us through this hard time.

Thank you everyone for your caring thoughts and prayers,
April

Baking Adventures at 11 pm

I know I have mentioned before that I like to cook but just not for myself. So when I have an event that I get to plan a fun recipe for it I get pretty excited. Tuesday night Ryan and I have started taking a Bible study class with my  pastor and his wife. They cook supper and I bring dessert. Its the best of both worlds for me I get to plan a fun dessert once a week and share it with 3 other people! Only problem I'm always a little short on time to get something made and never completely prepared.
(still working on that)

Monday night comes around and I'm all excited because I get to try a new dessert that I have never made before but I get this the inside scoop that its one of Ryan's favorite desserts so I really want to impress him with it. The famous dessert is known as "Pineapple upside down Cake"

What it is suppose to look like.

So while making it I'm feeling really good about it all the directions were pretty simple and it was tasting pretty good ( the batter i mean) And then I go to pour it in the pan which to me was big enough but to the cake batter it was not and I realized that this cake was going to be one puffy cake due the fact it ballooned up over the top of the cake pan the instant it hit the oven rack. So I waited the allotted hour it was to cook and kept checking it to see how it was doing and that it is when I noticed the sides of the cake were cooking way faster then the middle of the cake but again I was at a loss on how to fix it. So I let it bake till there was about 10-15 minutes left and poked a fork in it and it came out clean so I took it out of the oven.
Here is where my problems really began: The direction specifically say to flip the cake over immediately and get it out of the pan to let it cool on a serving tray.
Problem #1 I did not have a serving tray of any sort that was going to fit the length or width of the cake.
Problem #2 Cake was not flat on the top for me to flip it over. It really looked like a hill int he middle that gradually slopped down to burnt sides.
Problem #3 When Flipping the cake the cake did not like to stay put together and pieces stuck to the pan while the rest lay in a heap on the cutting board that I had made into a make shift serving platter.
Photo
(see that wierd middle chunk, that was the piece I tried to fit in there like a puzzle)
so at 9:00 at night I was feeling pretty discourage on the dessert adventure and I couldn't think of a single thing to do to make it look better.
This is where I am thankful I live in the 21st century where Dillon's stays open 24/7 and there are box desserts for everything.
I decided I would stick with the basics and make a simple batch of chocolate brownies and frosting. Well that ended up taking me till 12 am to get it bought, stirred up, and cooked. I wasn't about to try and ice it while it was hot, so I waited till this morning to ice it and stick it in the fridge to cool for the dinner tonight
Cross your fingers that it is edible.
Any one want some deformed Cake!!!

My list of trying something new

* Getting in shape: Today I took a hard look at myself and realized I am slowly becoming unhappy with the way I look. I decided that I need to really try at this thing called working out and getting in shape.
Step One: Try and find a workout partner and gym
Success my friend Becky works out at gym that is not super expensive and gave me a contact to call and set up a meet and greet appointment!
Depending on how tomorrow goes I may be signing a contract with Maximus Fitness and trying to get a personal trainer to help me get started.

* Getting involved with Topeka Community and finding events and a class or two that have people my age! List of things I am interested in trying: dancing, art, pottery, zoo volunteering, choir of some type, cooking classes! Who knows what I will find.

* Arts and Crafts and DIY projects in my apartment. I sometimes get these great ideas to help decorate and then I never do it cause I get busy or discouraged on not being able to do it. Well I finally have a great idea and I will get it completed.

* When I feel like I have accomplished something on my list I want to treat my self to pair of "Highland Creek" shoes they are on my wish/want list of shoes and clothes lately and the price is affordable right now!

* Taking daily walks in the morning or evening with Maizie "my doxen" I feel like she is not getting out enough and I also feel the same way about myself so evening and morning walks would really help us both.

* Sort and Donate unwanted clothes. After moving so many times I have a tub of clothing that I have rally not gone through in the past 6 months and I think it is about time that I sort them and give them away along with any clothing that is not fitting me or is just worn out. I am tired of seeing small clothes that I will never wear and feeling that I should be wearing them because I own them but I never do.

* I am cutting myself off from buying anymore clothes until I am happy with my body and my Bank account is ready for it! I realized that I have started looking for clothes in a bigger size and it really hurt to realize that I have gained that much weight in the past 6 months from starting my job.

*Saving money for future events: I want to set up a jar system to where I make a goal to put in certain amount of money each week to each jar that I am wanting to save money for a trip or event!

* Please pray for me in keeping motivated in helping me see my goals clearly on a daily bases.

High Five for Friday

Five Something greats that happened this week that impacted me in some way!

1.) I bought something from china and it came in! I recently have had a small addiction for ebay shopping. I dont buy much but I try to find the best deal for me in something that I think I will love. what I didnt realize is that I had bought/won an item that was coming from China. i almost freaked after thinking of how much the shipping cost was going to be and to my Amazement Shipping was Free. Wow What a deal. I got this awesome turqoius Cross that hangs from an all turquise chain. In fact im wearing it today.

2.) I tried serious couponing for the first time. Sadly for Ryan I was a mess while doing it. I had collected all the coupons I recently started saving and headed out for a night of grocery shopping with out a LIST. I didnt realize it would be such a headache to try and compare prices see what a better deal was if the copon would work which ones could I actually use.
Non the less i am still going to forge ahead and try again.

3.) Yesterday my phone just broke down. after 6 months it decided to freeze on me and never turn on again! Thanfully Verizon was very helpfull and I was able to do a warranty claim for free and get a new phone. Even better they over nighted it and it came in today at 11:30! Since we called in after 6:00 yesterday we were a little worried that the phone wouldnt come in till monday which would have meant no phone for April for the weekend. Surprisingly Iw as okay with it I just made sure everyone knew I didn't have a phone. But no worries becuase I now have a fully functioning phone again!

4.) I dont know if I have ever explained how lucky I feel that I get along so well with the boyfriends family. His parents have opened their arms to me and have welcomed me into their home as if I lived there. Actually I did live there for 3 weeks before I got my apartment which just proves how amazing they really are. Anyways back to my point they are great. They invite me to do anything and everything with their family and never make me feel like I am intruding.
Oh the something great would be spending time with them all.

5.) Happy Birthday to my amazingly awesome DAD well on the 9th . Im not going to say how old he is but if I did you honestly wouldn't believe me. His outlook on life and the way he portrays himself shows that he is much wiser and stronger for his age! I am very proud to be able to call him my father and show how well he raised is family. Oke enough being sappy I love you DAD thanks for everything!

I hope everyone has a great relaxing weekend!

Lifes moments in a nutshell

Life Moment #1
Climbing to the top of Monument Rocks: and then getting stuck up there cause I was freaking out about climbing down.
Look closely its me at the top. Facing a straight drop off on the other side! That is my "terrified hurry quick take the picture" smile.

The famous Camel Rock! Seriouly lookes like a camel (no I didnt not climb this one...it would be impossible for me)
Ryan and I at the top of the Rocks look at the view you can see for miles behind us!

A couple of weekends ago the boy and I headed out to the middle of no where aka western Kansas. To visit a couple that I am very close to. They are like my thrid grandparents and I hadn;t seen them since my College graduation in December and I was missing them alot. Oh and they had to finally meet Ryan and approve of him. Which I know they did because him and Dennis were insepereable the whole weekend and Connie cooked her famous beef and noodle meal for him!

Life Moment #2
starting Doggy Training classes with "Sam" Ryans Border Collie/ Australian Kelpy Mix. Even though it can be a caotic mess with different helpers telling you to do different commands and ways to do it. Sam seems to really enjoy it and he catches on really quick for only being 7 months old. I personally think that he is catching on quiker then most of the older dogs that have taken the class 2-3 times., but my opinion is a little byist!

Life Moments #3:
Geocaching...It can be addicting!!
I have recently been learning how to Geocach and I finally found my first one last month! Then Last Saturday night a group of us try to go geocaching all over Topeka KS. We were successfull in finding a few before it got dark out and then we tried to find some after the sun had alreay set and well that is just plain difficult and tiring. But still a ton of fun when you have some great friends trying to help you search.

Well I could keep going but I did title this lifes moments in a nutshell not an essay so I will stop myself at three and continue on in the future!

DIY for the Girls

This Blog Post is literally for the girls. I started following "One Good Thing by Jillee" her blog has somre really interesting posts and some great advice. click on the link to go directly to her site http://www.onegoodthingbyjillee.com/
Today I got an email that was titled DIY Homemade Blush and I was dumbfounded after reading it, "who would have thought it was so easy to make blush" Well I haven't made it yet but I am going to as soon as I get my hands on some Red Dye and an empty compact case.

"This is a pretty neat DIY trick. It costs just a few cents (Literally, maybe 1?), and leaves a very smooth, even color that blends incredibly well."
DIY Blush
*Water
*Baby Powder (or make your own “baby powder” with 1/2 cup corn starch and 1/2 cup baking powder)
*Red Food Coloring
-1-2 drops for light pink
-3-4 drops for medium pink
-5-6 drops for red/dark pink
In a bowl, mix your desired amount of food coloring with 3 tablespoons of water. Next, squirt baby powder in, 1-2 teaspoons at a time, and mix until smooth. Continue to add baby powder until the consistency of the mix is almost that of a soft clay and it is no longer all together, but breaks up easily into several pieces. Now, using your fingers, pat the mixture into an empty make-up container (I had one already empty from an old blush) until filled.
If you feel creative, try mixing in a little yellow for a peachy color or a tiny bit of blue for a bit of a purple hue.To use: You can use it right away, but for best results, allow the mixture to air dry, then press a make-up sponge into the blush and apply to your cheekbones, blending with until smooth.
*Note: The color of the blush is MUCH darker wet than dry, so don’t be worried if it looks red when you mix it.

I think Im going to try this but make small batches at first to test out different color combinations to get the right color for my skin! Maybe even add a moisturizer to it to make it more creamy?  It seems like alot of fun and not very hard at all!
And just think how much MONEY you could save.

Weekend Overview

Oh the joys of going back to work! Ok dont get me wrong I love my job and I am very thankful for it. But seriously who loves their job more then the weekend? If you can name one person please let me know and I will eat my words! :) I had an amazing weekend and I know this post is late I still want to talk about every single thing but I will contain myself to just the important things. Which was well everything in my opinion.

Friday night: Ryan and I had a great date night we went to see the new pixar movie Brave. It was well worth it, pixar has never disappointed me with a movie and I rather watch a disney or pixar movie any day then watch the ever popular movies that either make you feel gross afterwards, scared to walk outside, or just plain miffed on why they made the movie.  We then took a drive out to see the Shawnee County fishing lake and some houses that are for sale out in the country. It was really relaxing just driving around and listening to the night noises at the lake.

Saturday: we headed to Maple Hill for a company picnic for Bartlett and West, the engineering company ryan works for. The picnic was held at the Prairie Fire Lodge and Resort. And it was a resort This place was breathtaking.  http://www.prairiefirelodge.com/index.shtm and its right smack dab in the middle of kansas hidden away off on a dirt road but still close to a little town called Maple Hill. (you may know this town for their ever famous steak house "puffys Steakhouse" Had thier food at my sisters wedding and it was sooo good!)

We left their around 4:00 and decided to do some sight seeing and geocaching. I finally found my first Geocach! it was out by this gorgeous old stone church and cemetery. I was so excited that I found it that I made him take a picture to record it but sadly I dont have the picture to show you, (actually maybe thats a good thing!).

That evening we went to the dirt track races and watched some great races and even better people watching!

Whats up ahead: Next weekend Im heading out to the big town of Oakley Kansas to see Connie and Dennis who are like another set of grandparents to me! They mean alot and I haven't seen them since my college graduation. Also they have yet to meet the boyfriend and they keep asking about him. So im draggin him out to the middle of nowheresville to meet them and spend the weekend!

RANDOM FRIDAYS

I decided that I would do a post each friday that states something I have done, will be doing, or what I want to do someday. Basically it will be a post for anything and everything! Hence "Randomness"

Hope you all can handle it!

First off It's Raining in Topeka... yes be jealous it has been raining a nice quiet rain all day and doesnt look to be letting up anytime soon!
I just want to skip work to go outside and run and play in the rain. Its that great of a feeling. Sadly I can not do it but I will get to walk in it to my car without an umbrella so that kind of makes up for it right?

Although today would not be the ideal day to ride in a Hot air ballon. I am still obsessed with them and a goal of mine is to take a ride in one. And possibly go to a big hot air ballon show somewhere in the states. To help me cope till I get my opportunity to full fill my dream I found this adorable "Hope Floats" necklace on veryjane.com

Hope Floats! Hot Air Balloon Pendant Necklace http://veryjane.com/Deal/957/hope-floats-hot-air-balloon-pendant-necklace
They are still on sale for $8.00 for another day, Don't miss your chance.

Remember how I said that I went to school in Oklahoma. Well one of my really close friends from down there is celebrating her birthday this weekend and I can not be there so I wanted to shout out a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Steffanie and to say thank you for all that you have done for me and helped me through this last year! Im greatfull I can call you a best friend! Love you!

Creative Cooking

Last night I decided I would try my hand at cooking for my Dad and Boyfriend. I Love to cook but hate cooking for myself so the only times I cook are when I am planning on having someone over.
So when my dad said he was going to be in town I jumped on the chance to finally cook for him in my apartment.
Menu:
-Chicken in the Paula Deen Peach Salad Dressing- cooked on the Grill
- Rolls- greatest invention ever they are already cooked rolls you put some butter on them pop them in the oven for 5 mins. and you have some of the best tasting rolls.
- Corn on the Cob: cooked on the Grill
- Peaches on Personal Shortcakes with whip cream.

(Can you tell I am a bit obsessed with Peaches?)

I am not a fancy cook and I usually try to find the simplest way to do it but still taste cook. Oh and I like to experiment.
The Peach Salad dressing was something I had found at Wal-Mart and wanted to try because well it is made with Peaches. Verdict: not so good on Salads....Great on Grilled Chicken for a light fruity taste.

I was a bit worried that everything was either over cooked or under cooked and it would taste horrible but it all turned out fine (or at least i thought so) I didn't have any leftovers so that must mean the boys liked it...right?

Tip of the day: It's summer time which means Fresh produce everywhere you turn! The best part Farmers Markets. I am lucky to live in a city that supports a large farmers market twice a week. So if you are lucky enough to live in a town that supports Farmers Markets DO NOT take it for granted. Get out there and steal some deals on fresh produce and home baked goods.
The corn that I used I got from a family that was selling 6 ears for $2.50 and a dozen for $5.00
The peaches were a little bit more pricey $3.50 for 5 but they were so full of flavor and juicy that I really didn't mind.
(can you tell that I am bit obsessed with Farmers Markets as well)I love meeting the people and seeing where they have their farms or businesses located, more than likely they have days where you can go out and visit getting a tour and even being able to pick fruit, veggies, lavender, honey, etc.
I already have a list of places I want to go visit that are located around Topeka Kansas.

what are some other great items that you have gotten from Farmers Markets this summer?
Let me know if you have any great Corn recipes I still have 3 ears left!

Couponing

OK lets get something straight I suck at couponing. I have tried several times to get into it and every time I fail to take them with me when shopping and using them before they expire. Also I am not a planner I hardly ever make a list to go to the store and when I do I deviate from it quite a bit. It works for me because I am just shopping for me but it does not work for my monthly budget.
So on that note I am turning over a new leaf and trying again to become a couponing master and save me some money when I do my shopping.
Here are a few sites and blogs  that I recently got involved with for online couponing:
3 boys and a dog
http://3boysandadog.com/deals/- So far this Lady is great. She has everything very organized and easy to navigate on her web page and she makes it easy to understand. The best part is she has a tab specifically for beginner couponers (like me) Where she explains how it is done and what are some of the best sites to get involved with.
Luv a Bargin
http://www.luvabargain.com/ -What is not to love about a site that is all about being a thrifty spender and teaching you how to coupon while giving you access to tons of coupons that are really easy to print off and go.

Dillon's
http://www.dillons.com/Pages/default.aspx - Okay I'm sure everyone knows something about Dillon's but here is something I just learned the other day. They have a website and if you become a free member you can print off coupons from them daily. Even better if you have a Dillon's plus card (which is also free) You can chose to have those same coupons loaded electronically to your card and then when you use it at the checkout it will ring up on the register as a valid coupon without having to carry all those clippings around.
And as a bonus you earn fuel points just by having the plus card. Whats great about Fuel points??? You save money on fuel for every point that you get each month.

Okay another thing that I'm obsessed with is the sites called Groupon and Deal Garden.com They are great deals. I have been able to get a haircut with all the works for $17 instead of the original price of $99. And the deals for restaurants are great I have gotten several date ideas from these two sites and been able to save alot of money as well.

Well wish me luck on my journey of becoming a couponing queen!

Getting started

Im new at this Blogging thing and so I may not be very good at it but I have always been interested in them and figured why not try it. Hey if anyone else doesn't read it I can still look back on it as a memory holder for all the great times in my life!

Ok so the title is "A peek into Kansas life". Yep I live in Kansas and for the most part LOVE it! I tried the whole moving away thing when I went to college and even tho I didnt go very far (Oklahoma)  I was still homesick for my family and really just Kansas in general. And ever since I moved back It seems that my life has just been kind of falling into place instead of scrambling for all the pieces to fit together. Cross my fingers that it keeps on this track!

I moved to Topeka in mid February in a whirlwind for my job that I had just accepted. And wow has the time flown by... it is now July and I am ready to say that I finally feel settled into my apartment and job. I can also say that I just celebrated six months of dating with the greatest guy ever (Im sure you will hear more about him later)!

Well I guess thats about it for now I'll try and post again soon!
